Flash Crash

On 6 May 2010, many US-based equity products experienced a period of great volatility, during which the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell nearly 1000 points, before quickly recovering (the Flash Crash).

By 30 September 2010, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and Securities and Exchange Commission had compiled a report, ‘Findings Regarding the Market Events of May 6, 2010’, setting out their conclusions as to the cause of the Flash Crash.
