The AIMA Australia Annual Forum is Australia’s flagship alternative investment conference organised by the industry for the industry. This year, we will have a virtual forum across 2.5 days showcasing the skills of international and local managers, their approach to business and their market views to local and international delegates. The forum also brings investors, domestic and offshore, to openly discuss the alternative investment industry, interact with peers and gain best-practice perspectives. This year, we will continue to build on our previous offerings with more diversity in topics and speakers as we mark AIMA's global 30th anniversary virtually!

Closing Remarks Dr. Alistair Rew Dr Alistair Rew is the founder of Cortex Investech, responsible for delivering superior investment and business performance across AMP Capital’s public markets business. Alistair has over 20 years global investment management experience, predominantly focussed on seeding, investing in, and developing and building, world-class investment teams and firms. Alistair is the chair of AIMA Australia, chair of the AIMA Investor Advisory Group, and is also on the board of Australian Students Asset Management, a not-for-profit, student-run hedge fund, providing a crucial link between academic and industry experience across all aspects of an investment management business. |
Introduction and Keynote Jack Inglis Jack Inglis is the Chief Executive Officer of the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA*). He has been in the financial services industry and closely involved with hedge funds for over 30 years. Jack has held senior management positions at both Morgan Stanley, where he served for 16 years, and Barclays, where he was prior to joining AIMA. From 2007 to 2010 he was CEO of London based hedge fund manager, Ferox Capital Management. He served as a non-executive director of London Capital Group plc from 2007 to 2010 and currently sits on the board of the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Association (CAIA). He began his career in 1983 at UK stockbrokers James Capel (which was subsequently acquired by HSBC) and has extensive experience in origination, distribution, financing and trading across the fixed income and equity capital markets. Jack holds a Master of Arts in Economics from Cambridge University. Jack is also Chair of the charity HFC Help for Children UK Affiliate Board and took up this role in January 2020. *AIMA is a not-for-profit global trade association that represents the mutual interests of the alternative funds industry, including hedge funds and private debt funds. It has over 2,000 corporate members across more than 60 countries. AIMA operates out of offices in London, New York, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo & Toronto. |
Introduction and Keynote Luke Ellis Luke Ellis is Chief Executive Officer of Man Group, a global active investment firm. Man Group has five investment engines (Man AHL, Man Numeric, Man GLG, Man FRM and Man GPM), which manage USD 108.3 billion (as at 30 June, 2020) in a range of liquid and private markets. With a central objective to deliver alpha for clients through time, Man Group provides a wide range of alternative and long-only portfolio solutions for its client base. As CEO, Luke leads the firm’s Executive Committee, working with teams across investment, distribution, technology and infrastructure, while seeking to deliver the right outcomes for clients and positioning Man Group to adapt to opportunities as markets evolve. He is also the Deputy Chairman of the Standards Board for Alternative Investments (SBAI), and Chair of the Board of Trustees for Greenhouse Sports. Luke joined Man Group in 2010 and was previously President of the firm, responsible for management across investment engines. Prior to this, he was Chairman of Man GLG’s Multi-Manager activities and was Managing Director of Man FRM from 1998 to 2008. Luke was previously a Managing Director at JPMorgan in London and Global Head of the firm’s Equity Derivatives and Equity Proprietary Trading businesses. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics and Economics from Bristol University. |
CAIA/ AIMA Scholarship Award Ceremony Joanne Murphy Jo has been in Asia for over 20 years, predominantly based in Hong Kong but with two valuable years spent in Singapore. She has held several senior Asia Pacific wide management positions, successfully leading sales, business development, marketing and client relationship management divisions for major institutions; and has both built and managed large and effective regionally located teams. Jo was expatriated to Hong Kong, with Morgan Stanley, in early 1997 and has worked for several global institutions; covering intermediary, buy and sell side, entrepreneurial and now in a professional education business environment - throughout the Alternative Investment industry. In 2000, Jo joined HSBC Securities Services (previously Bank of Bermuda) as Head of Sales, Asia Pacific (based in Hong Kong) and in 2005 moved on to Head of Sales Asia (ex-Japan) and Product Specialist for all alternative investment products at Deutsche Asset Management (in Singapore). In 2008 Jo joined Triple A Partners, a privately held group. In early 2012 Jo joined the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) Association, the international leader in alternative investment education and provider of the CAIA designation, as Managing Director, Asia Pacific. Jo enjoys the reputation of being hard-working, capable, committed and commercial; was voted “Asia’s most influential woman in the alternative sector” and also one of “The 25 most influential people in Asian hedge funds” by the industry’s leading AsianInvestor magazine. Jo also was a founding member of the Hong Kong AIMA Chapter, previously held an Executive Committee Member position and now sits on its Education Committee. Further, she also holds a number of corporate advisory positions, is a Fellow of SUSS (Singapore) as well as an advisory council member of UPACA Gurukul (India). |
Keynote & Fireside Chat Paul Chadwick Paul Chadwick is the Managing Director and a founder of Nanuk Asset Management, a Sydney based firm formed in late 2009 that specializes in global investments related to environmental sustainability and resource scarcity. Previously, Paul was the Managing Director of GMO Australasia where, until retirement in mid 2008, he was the head of Systematic Global Macro Strategies as well as having responsibility for the overall management of the firm’s Australian and Singaporean operations. Prior to GMO, he held senior roles in global tactical asset allocation and derivatives trading at Westpac Investment Management and, earlier, senior positions in equity derivatives and quantitative analysis at the stockbroking firm James Capel Australia. His more than thirty years career in finance has followed approximately ten years in aeronautical engineering and airline management in the USA and Australia respectively. Paul holds degrees in Science and Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Sydney and is the current Asia Pacific board member on the Global Council of the Alternative Investment Managers Association. |
Keynote & Fireside Chat Jean is one of Wellington’s three Managing Partners, who are responsible for governance of the Wellington Management partnership. Throughout her nearly 30 years at the firm, Jean has focused on the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, serving as a research analyst, portfolio manager, and leader of the health care sector research team. She has been the recipient of industry awards, including Barron’s 100 Most Influential Women in US Finance (2020) and The Hedge Fund Journal’s 50 Leading Women In Hedge Funds (2018). Jean serves as the chair of Wellington’s Executive Committee and is the sponsor for the Wellington Women's Network. She joined Wellington Management upon her graduation from Wellesley College, where she earned a BA in economics. Additionally, she holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society Boston. Jean is also a member of the investment committees at Wellesley College and the Winsor School. |

Jun Bei Liu Jun Bei Liu is the Portfolio Manager of the Tribeca Alpha Plus Fund, one of Australia's longest running equity long short funds. Jun Bei Liu is a passionate investor with over 18 years of Investment experience covering a large range of sectors, an effective public speaker about her investment views and a regular participant in prestigious conferences such as Sohn. The last 14 years of Jun Bei’s career has been with Tribeca and prior to Tribeca, Jun Bei spent four years as an investment analyst covering the Australian consumer sectors at Morningstar and Foster Stockbroking. Jun Bei is a native Chinese speaker and regularly travels to China and visits other Asian markets as part of her Investment Research, and she actively insights the companies that she invests in. Nick is responsible for the investment management of Munro’s key investment funds and the formulation and implementation of the proprietary investment process. Andrew Lockhart Andrew has more than 30 years’ banking, funds management and financial markets experience specialising in leverage and acquisition finance as well as corporate and institutional lending. Andrew’s considerable experience includes being responsible for the origination and portfolio risk management of large, diversified and complex loan portfolios including corporate restructurings. Andrew holds the Bachelor of Business and Master of Business Administration qualifications from the Queensland University of Technology. In 2019, Andrew was appointed Chair of the Australian branch of the Alternative Credit Council, which is a sub-committee of the Alternative Investment Management Association. |

Travis works with institutional investors across all areas of portfolio management, specializing in alternative assets. Prior to joining Cambridge, he was an equities analyst at Employee Retirement Systems of Texas. Travis has an MBA from the University of Texas, McCombs School of Business. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst and Chartered Alternatives Investment Analyst designations. |
Allocating to Alternatives…. Asset Consultants Perspective Rebecca Jacques Rebecca Jacques is a Principal in Mercer’s Institutional Wealth business. As a Senior Investment Consultant, Rebecca is involved in preparing strategic investment advice to institutional and wealth management clients as well as supporting our focus on delivering retirement income solutions. She is based in Sydney. Prior to joining Mercer in October 2018, Rebecca gained over 20 years of investment and financial services experience. This included heading up the managed funds research business at ASSIRT Pty Ltd, where she was responsible for managing the research team and developing the first retail alternative asset class product rating in the Australian retail marketplace. Rebecca was also part of the executive management team brought in to establish the retail presence of Deutsche Asset Management in Australia. She was also the chief operating officer of a boutique Hedge Fund established by the Chairman of AIMA Australia. Rebecca has led her own consultancy business providing investment and portfolio construction advice to independent financial planning firms, and dealer groups, as well as product and asset management consultancy to asset management firms. Rebecca holds a Bachelor of Arts (Economics and Politics) (Honours) from Monash University; and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment from the Securities Institute of Australia. |
Allocating to Alternatives…. Asset Consultants Perspective Felicity Walsh Felicity leads the Institutional and Alternatives business in Australia and NZ. Felicity and team are responsible for working closely with institutional investors to develop customised solutions across a range of asset classes. Traditionally Felicity’s focus has been in Alternative assets. Prior to Franklin Templeton/K2 Advisors, Felicity spent eleven years at Willis Towers Watson as an Asset Consultant and Actuarial Consultant in Australia and the UK. Felicity is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (UK), Certified Investment Management Analyst and holds a First Class Honors degree in Chemistry. |
Allocating to Alternatives…. Asset Consultants Perspective Michael Sommers Michael Sommers is a Principal Consultant having joined Frontier in 2013 and is the head of Alternatives and Derivatives. His responsibilities include undertaking manager research of liquid and illiquid alternatives strategies as well as derivative strategies, including providing specialist advice for these areas to clients. Michael also provides risk management and generalist consulting advice. Prior to joining Frontier, Michael worked in London for seven years in a number of trading floor based senior risk management roles at CIBC, Lloyds and HBOS. His roles involved advising on the risk and performance characteristics of diverse portfolios and investment strategies. He was also involved in regulatory and risk governance related work at a senior level. Prior to working in London, Michael worked in credit risk modelling at ANZ in Melbourne. Michael holds a Bachelor of Commerce with majors in Actuarial Studies and Finance (including First Class Honours in Finance), a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Applied Finance degree from Macquarie University. |

She is/ has been a NED of 2 industry associations, a national sports organisation and a NFP in the disability sector. |

He is responsible for the strategy of the Alternatives portfolio and is a member of the Investment Committee. Ben joined as a Director after a 10-year career in the hedge fund industry and 4 years as Head of Investment Strategy at Industry Super Fund LUCRF Super. Ben completed a 6 year undergraduate degree at the University of Melbourne majoring in behavioural finance, psychology and history. He later completed a Masters in Applied Finance while employed/leading research at a Connecticut-based hedge fund. |
What A Year… Leading Allocators Reflect On 2020 And Look Forward to The Future Michael Block Michael Block has been involved in the financial services sector in Australia for 40 years. He has held a diverse range of positions in investment banking, government and funds management. He is currently the Chief Investment Officer of Australian Catholic Super, a $10 billion industry superannuation fund. From 2012 to 2014 he was the Chief Investment Officer of Nambawan Super Limited, the major superannuation fund in Papua New Guinea. From 2009 to 2011 Michael was the General Manager - Investments for FuturePlus Financial Services, an organisation that serviced four superannuation funds with assets of around $12 billion. Before that, Michael designed and implemented the $14 billion Workers Compensation Insurance Fund whilst General Manager - Investment Division for WorkCover NSW from 2004-2008. From 1996 to 2004 Michael was Director - Treasury and Investment Services for the University of New South Wales where he managed UNSW's reserves and endowments and managed UNSW's commercial operations. He introduced Ethical Investing to UNSW in 1997 Michael has undergraduate qualifications in law, accounting, finance and philosophy and postgraduate qualifications in law, applied finance, economic history and economics. Michael enjoys playing and watching sport and was born in Johannesburg South Africa. He is married with four daughters |
What A Year… Leading Allocators Reflect On 2020 And Look Forward to The Future Debbie Alliston Debbie is the Chief Investment Officer, Multi-Asset Group at AMP Capital. She is responsible for managing a team of multi-asset investment professionals with responsibility for over $84 billion (as at June 2020) invested across a range of diversified funds including LifeCycle, Institutional, and Goals-based funds. In addition, Debbie is the Portfolio Manager for AMP’s default Corporate Super offerings. Prior to her appointment in March 2019 she was Head of the Multi-Asset Portfolio Management team and joined AMP Capital in 2011. Debbie has over 30 years in the industry and has had roles with Apostle Asset Management as Investment Director, where she was responsible for the management of the ongoing affiliate program. From 1991 to 2007 she was with BT Financial Group (formerly Rothschild Asset Management) in a range of roles, including Head of Investments, Chief Operating Officer, Investment Management and Director Head of Portfolio Management. She has also held roles with Bankers Trust Investment Management in the UK and Equitilink Australia. |

Damien worked in both asset management and stockbroking in Australia before moving to London where he worked in the prime brokerage business of Goldman Sachs. Based in Singapore, he is responsible for leading CME Group’s initiatives to expand its presence in the region, including its partnerships with regional exchanges, delivering a growth strategy, and developing benchmark products and services to meet the needs of current and prospective clients. In addition to his role at CME Group, Fix is also a Board Member of Dubai Mercantile Exchange (DME) and Chairman of DME Asia Pte Ltd. DME was launched in 2007 as a joint venture between CME Group, Dubai Holdings and the Oman Investment Fund. Before joining CME Group in June 2015, Fix served as Chief Executive Officer of DME since August 2012, where he spearheaded DME’s strategic development and led the exchange towards closer ties with oil producers, customers and the financial community, with a particular focus on its core target market of Asia. Prior to that, Fix had a highly successful career spanning 20 years with BNP Paribas, where he served the group since 1992 and has held several positions in New York, Paris and Singapore. His most recent position at BNP Paribas was as Head of Marketing for Commodity Futures, Asia Pacific, based in Singapore. Before that, he was BNP Paribas’ Head of Commodity Derivatives Credit, Asia Pacific & Japan, responsible for providing exchange traded and OTC hedging services to clients of BNP across challenging credit, legal and compliance jurisdictions in Asia. |

Prior to joining Citco in January of 2000, Mr. Peller was employed by Tudor Investment Corporation where he served in various senior positions, including Vice President of the Fund Accounting Group from 1998 to 1999 and Manager of the group from 1993 to 1997. From 1990 to 1993, Mr. Peller worked in the Ernst & Young Financial Services Group. Chris focuses on new approaches to diligence in the Covid world, leveraging fintech and data driven diligence tools to deliver portfolio wide due diligence analytics. Culture Within Management Companies Nichole Alexander Nichole Alexander has nearly 20 years’ experience across the global financial markets, specialising in the management of operations divisions, with a focus on client service across a variety of products and roles. Nichole started her financial markets career locally in Sydney at International Broking firms ICAP and BGC Partners before moving to work in Hong Kong 3 years. In 2011 Nichole joined Goldman Sachs in Sydney where she worked for 7 years, before landing her current role at HSBC. As the Head of Client Service, Market Advocacy and Development, the role brings together her global markets knowledge and experience to facilitate engagement with clients, service providers, local industry bodies and market forums, for the provision of information to clients, whilst playing an important advocacy and development role, across the industry. Nichole is a mum to 3 young girls, likes to keep fit and healthy and is a huge advocate for retaining and advancing women in their chosen careers. |
Culture Within Management Companies Jeff Dunn Jeff Dunn is a Principal and Head of APAC at AQR Capital Management. In this role, he leads AQR’s business development and client service in the region. He is a founding member of AQR’s ESG Working Group. Prior to joining AQR, Jeff was the research manager for the international equity division at QIC, one of Australia’s largest institutional investment managers. While at QIC, Jeff also worked in a secondment role with the quantitative strategies group at Goldman Sachs Asset Management in New York. Jeff earned a B.Sc. in mathematics and a B.Bus. in banking and finance from the QUT. |

She has dedicated her 25 year career to operational risk, first auditing bank trading desks from 1995-2000 and then conducting ODD on hedge funds since 2001. Prior to founding PRISM, she was the Deputy Global Head of Operational Due Diligence for Union Bancaire Privee, an Associate at JP Morgan Investment Management, and an auditor at Ernst & Young in New York. She has evaluated operational risk on thousands of funds around the world. |

Nicole joined Bennelong in 2012 as a Senior Fund Accountant. She was promoted to Head of Investment Operations in 2015, and then on to the newly created role of Head of Client Experience in May 2019. In her current role, she draws on her broad knowledge of the business to oversee the client experience and product teams. Her previous employers include Aviva Australia (MLC) and Mercer Australia, with roles encompassing fund accounting, investment operations, corporate finance, client services and operational due diligence. |
